The tour starts in Estepona, on the Costa del Sol, with a gradual climb to the town of Ronda (where we will stay for two nights), perched high above the dramatic El Tajo gorge. Stage 2 is your opportunity to discover the pristine natural reserve in Grazalema Natural Park, with a route through its rolling hills, dotted with Moorish villages and beautiful olive orchards.

Stage 3 heads east, passing through the ‘cake rocks’ of the Antequera mountains, finishing at La Viñuela hotel, where we will enjoy the tranquility of its spa, and a magnificent dinner.  Stage 4 takes us back to the beach for a one night stay at the fantastic Parador Hotel in Nerja. The penultimate stage begins with a 25km rolling ride, along the Mediterranean coast, until we reach the start of La Carretera del Cabra (‘The Goat Path’), probably the most well-known climb in the area, ascending at a steady gradient for 37km through spectacular rocky gorges.

Of course, no TBT Tour is complete without an epic Queen’s Stage, and we save the biggest test for last. After finally reaching majestic Granada, Stage 6 features a loop, up and over the epic Pico de Veleta, the highest paved road in Europe, reaching an impressive 3,400 meters. Have you ever wondered why this climb has never been featured in the Vuelta a España? It’s simply too high, too long, and too tough for a Grand Tour!

We’ll have a fully supported ride with our usual TBT experienced ride leaders and Support Van. Our weekly program of supported rides is highlighted below.
SATURDAY: “Arriving day” – Transfer to Estepona.
SUNDAY: Estepona to Ronda. “click on the image for larger view”

DISTANCE: 70kms & 2,000m+

DAY 1 – Exploring the Hills of Estepona to Ronda: Today we leave the coast of Estepona and head inland in search of Ronda where we will spend the next 2 nights. Our first pass is Peñas Blancas, a very quiet road that will give us plenty of viewpoints where we will be able to appreciate the best views of the day. Once at the top, we will enjoy the descent through the chestnut trees to head towards our second climb of the day, shorter than the previous one, which will leave us very close to our lunch spot before facing the last part of the descent to Ronda.

MONDAY: Grazalema Natural Park – “click on the image for a larger view”

DISTANCE: 110 km & 2,100m+

DAY 2 – A Taste of Grazalema’s Natural Splendor: Our route today takes us into the Grazalema Natural Park. Although it seems hard to believe, this is the rainiest place on the peninsula (fingers crossed we avoid a downpour during our journey). A route that takes us through numerous small “Pueblos Blancos” where we will stop to taste some good Serrano ham and some of the best olive oil.

TUESDAY: Sierra de las Nieves. – “click on the image for a larger view”

DISTANCE: 145kms & 2,300m+

DAY 3 – Discovering Antequera’s Ancient Charms: We say goodbye to Ronda and head east in search of Antequera, another small but charming town. Several archaeological sites scattered around the village testify that the area has been habited for more than 6000 years. From its past, it preserves an extensive archaeological and architectural heritage, with the Menga, Viera and El Romeral dolmens standing out.

WEDNESDAY: To the Winery !!  – “click on the image for a larger view”

DISTANCE: 70km & 2,600m+

DAY 4 – The Long and Scenic Ride: Day 4 will be the longest day of the week but we will have a final reward. Another day full of white villages and incredible views around every bend. Once the route is finished we head to the Bodega Señorio de Nevada, our hotel for the night where we can enjoy a wine tasting before a tasty dinner.

THURSDAY: Goat´s Path. – “click on the image for a larger view”

DISTANCE: 100km & 1500m+

DAY 5 – Riding the Famed «Cabra Road»: After a short transfer in our van, we will start the route along the «Carretera de la Cabra» (Goat Road). Nowadays it is a famous road used by cyclists to communicate the coast with the city of Granada. It was used even before 1940 by the few people who could afford a holiday in Almuñécar and its stone walls and tunnels were once dynamited by the brave roadmen of years ago..

FRIDAY: Pico Veleta.  – “click on the image for a larger view”

DISTANCE: 100km & 2600m+

DAY 6 – Conquering the Heights of Pico Veleta: For our last day we have left the ascent to the Pico Veleta which has the honour of being the highest asphalt road in Europe at 3367 metres above sea level. A tough route that will put the icing on the cake of a week of cycling in Andalucia that we are sure we will remember forever.
